VANCOUVER ISLAND – When it comes to creating or renovating a space, delays are often just part of the process. According to Will Duggan, owner of Creative Woodcraft, cabinetry companies are one of the final trades on site and thus are heavily impacted by the progress of others.

We are finding that scheduling is one of the most challenging parts of the construction process for our customers and, these days, projects are delayed at the last moment for various reasons,” said Duggan.

With so many moving parts and so many different trades that need in and out, it can be easy for things to fall off track or for progress to stall, and the current supply chain disruptions impacting the construction industry add another layer of unwanted disruption. When focused on overcoming these challenges, it can be so easy for the customer service aspect to slip, which is why Creative Woodcraft took things into their own hands.

“Over the last year, we have added another 2500 square feet of shop space to ensure we remain committed to our client base, specifically space to quality control our products and store finished products in case of delays,” said Duggan. “Although we have faced some major challenges in the last couple of years and continue to tackle the big hurdles with labour and supply chain, the improvements we have made have given us high-level confidence in our timelines.”

Established over 35 years ago in Cobble Hill, BC, Creative Woodcraft specializes in design, build and installation of custom cabinetry for the kitchen, bath, office, or commercial space. The company uses state-of-the-art design software for all their drafting and cutlists, as well as a CNC router for cutting and drilling cabinet parts, creating minimal waste and expert precision which results in top quality product at an affordable price.

More recently, internal changes that allow the company to retain a high level of output, while maintaining flexibility and minimizing the impact to the customer, have been vital to the company’s success. Substantial development to existing management software, as well as investing in collaborative robots to complete mundane tasks, have been core pieces to the overall company plan. In fact, that plan helped Creative Woodcraft experience record revenue last year and the company is on track to do the same this year.

“We are proud to say that even with the challenges the industry has faced in terms of supply, labour, and delays, we have been able to maintain our goal of providing value to our customers and trade partners,” said Duggan. “The Creative Woodcraft team is committed to providing you with the service you expect and deserve, no matter what the obstacle!”
