Saanich Hires Two New Senior Leaders

October 25, 2022
SAANICH – The District of Saanich welcomes two new senior leaders to our municipality: Trevor Hurst as chief information officer, and Sheila Allen as director of corporate services.

Trevor Hurst started in the new position of chief information officer (CIO) on September 26, 2022. Hurst brings decades of combined experience from the private and public sectors, most recently as executive director and chief technology officer at the BC Public Service. He holds a Master of Business Administration from Royal Roads University and is an associate faculty member in the Royal Roads School of Business.

As CIO, Hurst will lead the IT Division, and with his team will deliver the technology services and capabilities staff rely upon. He will facilitate the development and implementation of an innovative digital strategy which will help position Saanich to be more innovative, effective and sustainable in the delivery of services to residents.

Sheila Allen joined Saanich on October 17, 2022 for a one-year term as director of corporate services following the retirement of previous Director of Corporate Services Laura Ciarniello. Allen has held several positions with the BC Public Service, most recently as the executive director of strategic human resources for the Ministry of Children and Family Development. In addition to her seven years of public service experience, she has decades of experience in the private and nonprofit sectors. Her experience is complemented by a Master of Business Administration in Leadership and Change Management from Simon Fraser University.

Allen will lead Saanich’s Corporate Services Department, comprised of the communications, human resources and occupational health and safety divisions.

“Sheila and Trevor bring a wealth of knowledge and experience leading change in a variety of organizations,” said Chief Administrative Officer Brent Reems. “Their expertise will help guide our valued internal support services and lay a strong foundation for improved service delivery to our residents.”
