Firehouse Grill Opens Anew On Front Street

NANAIMO – The Firehouse Grill has closed on Old Victoria Road, but owner Mike Atherton has re-opened it at 75 Front Street. Their special in-house sauce is peerless, and worth a trip to try it out. It’s so good, it’s tempting to drink it out of a straw.

Congratulations to realtor Dan Morris of Royal LePage Nanaimo upon earning his Bachelor of Commercial in Entrepreneurial Management from Royal Roads University.

Nicole Sendey has joined the team at Kane Biotech, where she will be working in Investor Relations and Public Relations. Nicole was at RE/MAX of Nanaimo prior to recently working for the Coulson Group of Companies in Port Alberni.

Convertus Nanaimo, also known as Circular Waste BC, held a grand opening for its newly upgraded organic waste processing facility at 981 Maughan Road at Duke Point on August 26. The organization now called 4VI (formerly known as Tourism Vancouver Island), has added Alexandra Eady to their team as a Sustainable Development Specialist.

Rob Gough has been appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Mosaic Forest Management, effective September 1.

He takes over from Jeff Zweig, whose tenure ends August 31, and whose departure was planned earlier. Rob has almost 30 years of international resources experience, and was most recently Mosaic’s Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer. Prior to Mosaic, he was in a senior leadership positions with BHP and Coalspur.

Well done, Sandy Harper, a long-time realtor at RE/MAX of Nanaimo, and former professional golfer, who won the British Columbia Golf Senior Men’s and Super-Senior Men’s Championships in Victoria in late July at Victoria’s Uplands Golf Club.

It’s particularly great because Sandy suffered a stroke two years ago.

Congratulations to Savanna Constable upon being promoted to Operations Manager at IWCD. IWCD continues its torrid pace by breaking ground at the VRS Communities Society senior’s housing complex in Port Alberni, called “The Timberline at North Park”. It’s a five-storey, wood-framed seniors living residence featuring 102 units.

It’s hard to keep up with chiropractor Dr. Ferenc Stefani, literally, as he recently took first place in his age category at the 42-kilometre ultra-marathon race in Grand Cache, Alberta dubbed the “Canadian Death Race”. Ferenc, 61, traveled the 17,000 vertical feet of elevation change over 125 kilometres in 19:5:58 – almost a full day.

More awards for Nanaimo Theatre Group: Who recently won awards for best sound, lighting and costume design at the Theatre BC Mainstage Festival in Vernon. NTG also earned awards for Best Director – Sherri McLean, and the Bill Elliot Award for Best Performance by Youth or Novice – Zane Downey.

Foothills has received good news from the District of Lantzville, which will amend its official community plan to allow the project to increase its density from 730 to 814 units.

Ironclad Developments has submitted a development permit application for 525 Third Street, where they want to build two apartment buildings, which would be home to 171 student housing and townhouse units.
