PENTICTON – A report containing recommendations to approve the development permit for a 6 storey, 105 room hotel and restaurant with large rooftop patios at 903 Vernon Avenue will appear before Penticton City Council during its upcoming March 1 meeting.

The site, sold by the City in 2020 to Mundi Hotel Enterprises through a competitive RFP process, is the intended future location of the highly sought Trade and Convention Centre Hotel, which will operate under the Four Points by Sheraton trade name.

In a report to Council, staff will seek approval of a development permit that provides for the building’s form, character and landscaping and makes way for construction to start, which is intended to begin in March.

“City staff have been working closely with the Mundi Hotel team to ensure this project receives the necessary approvals to proceed in the quickest time possible,” said the City’s Director of Development Services, Blake Laven.  “The hotel’s completion and opening will generate many new opportunities for both the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre, as well as the South Okanagan Events Centre.  Everyone is looking forward to this project getting underway.”

A Key Component To The North Gateway Area

The proposed hotel is located within the North Gateway area of Penticton, at the intersection of Westminster Ave W, Alberni Street, and Vernon Avenue and adjacent to the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre (PTCC) and South Okanagan Event Centre (SOEC).

With the help of community input, a vision has emerged that identifies the North Gateway as a welcoming and attractive neighbourhood, supportive of increased varieties of residential densities, tourist accommodation and commercial activity. Given its close proximity to the PTCC and SOEC, the hotel’s high quality rooms and amenities will support economic activity and serve as a valuable addition to this area and its future development. It is hoped the hotel will act as a catalyst for further redevelopment in the North Gateway.
