Family Firm One of BC’s Largest Wireless Communications Dealers

VICTORIA – Starting as a two-way radio communications sales and service provider 40 years ago, Victoria Mobile Radio Ltd., owned by Kerry and Jim Taylor, has become one of the largest wireless communications dealers in British Columbia.

President Kerry Taylor adds the company has become a major provider of public commercial voice and data radio dispatch services on Vancouver Island.

Taylor notes the key to the family-owned business’ success is “Partnering with first class manufacturers who we can work with to engineer, deliver and furnish high spec and high quality voice and data wireless communication systems,” and adds that his eldest son Craig, a University of Victoria graduate, also works for the company.

Victoria Mobile Radio has expanded steadily over the years, and currently offers ICOM, Kenwood and Motorola two-way radio lines, as well as Iridium satellite phones.

“We were awarded the Motorola line in 2019,” Taylor notes. “We are also an exclusive GE Partner for their SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) radio line for the provinces of BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the Yukon.”

Victoria Mobile Radio specializes in complete wireless communication systems for private industry and government, including the design, implementation and maintenance of wireless communication networks, radio dispatch systems, SCADA radio systems and wireless data systems.

Taylor says the company is growing rapidly, with new higher speed technology available and wide-area digital voice two-way radio systems. Recently they have hired two more Motorola trained RF technicians and are looking to add more.

“2019 was crazy on the GE SCADA radio side,” he recalls. “Most Municipalities use GE SCADA radios and Motorola RTUs (Remote Terminal Unit) to control their water and sewage pump stations, and upgrade projects that year were the District of North Vancouver, Resort Municipality of Whistler, Campbell River and Metro Vancouver. A big success was the supply and implementation of GE SCADA radio communication equipment for the new CRD pipeline here in Victoria.”

Throughout its history, Victoria Mobile Radio has developed a reputation as a provider of turnkey wireless solutions, as the company’s broad depth of experience enables it to design, furnish, install and maintain complete systems for clients.

Victoria Mobile Radio is at 3300 Tennyson Avenue in Victoria.
