PENTICTON – The Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen (RDOS) is announced that Jim Zaffino has been hired as the new Manager of Finance. Zaffino has worked in local government in this region for more than 35 years. Zaffino worked previously with the City of Penticton, the Regional District and most recently, the City of West Kelowna as both Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrative Officer.
Regional District CAO Bill Newell indicates Zaffino was recruited away from his current consulting work due to his wealth of experience in the job, including experience in a regional district.
“Jim’s background is an excellent fit for us,” says Newell. “With the recent vacancy in this critical position, we couldn’t have found anybody more qualified than Jim to fill this position at this critical time of year.”
“It’s great to be back in local government,” said Zaffino. “I’m looking forward to stepping in to meet the needs of the organization and to be joining the RDOS team.”
Zaffino has lived in the Penticton area for many years. He earned his Chartered Professional Accountant (CGA) designation in 1988 and remains in good standing. In addition to his municipal experience, Zaffino has many years of experience in emergency management and is well known and respected in the financial management field in British Columbia.
Zaffino will take over from John Kurvink, who announced his departure a few weeks ago after two years on the job.
“On behalf of our entire organization, I can say that we’re extremely happy to welcome Jim back with us,” says Newell. “And our citizens will benefit from his experience and the continuity he will immediately bring to our operations.”
Jim Zaffino takes over as RDOS Manager of Finance effective September 28, 2020.
