VICTORIA – Get ready to roll out the red carpet and roll the cameras!

The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce announced an agreement with CHEK to broadcast the annual Greater Victoria Business Awards happening Saturday, Sept. 19 at 6 pm.

The Chamber’s annual awards galas are typically held each year in the spring, however this year’s gala had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, the awards will be announced over a one-hour CHEK broadcast as part of a new partnership with The Chamber.

“I’m excited by this opportunity for our community to come together with thousands of people across Vancouver Island to celebrate the hard work and determination of businesses across our region,” Chamber CEO Bruce Williams said.

“This has been a challenging year for everyone and — more than ever — it’s important we recognize the extraordinary work of organizations that are the foundation of our region’s economy. These awards reflect pre-COVID business and will be a baseline for defining our future economy.”

The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce’s annual Businesses Awards shine a light on hard-working entrepreneurs, organizations and community leaders. There are 14 categories, including Business of the Year, Outstanding Customer Service, Innovation and New Business. Finalists were announced this spring, after being chosen by an independent panel of prominent community leaders.

Rob Germain

“Our region is home to incredible leaders who deserve to be recognized for their contributions to our economy and our community,” CHEK general manager Rob Germain said. “We look forward to broadcasting their stories to a wide audience and sharing in the celebration of their success.”

As previously announced, Rahim Khudabux, co-owner and general manager of Max Furniture, was named Chamber Member of the Year. This award recognizes an individual who has served as a volunteer at The Chamber, has taken an active role with the board or committees, fosters relationships with the community and advocates on behalf of business.

Bill McCreadie is this year’s recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, which is chosen by the Board of Governors. McCreadie is a former chair of The Chamber’s Board of Directors and partner with the accounting firm McCreadie & Tait. The Lifetime Achievement Award honours an individual for his or her outstanding leadership and accomplishments over the decades.

With 1,400 members, The Chamber’s mission is to serve Greater Victoria by working together to build good business and great community through advocacy, networking events, professional development and other unique activities.
