Josh Bola Took Lessons Learned From His Father To Build A Dynamic, One-Stop Construction And Design Firm In Victoria

Josh and his team have worked with local charities like HeroWork, who volunteer their time building and repairing the facilities of charitable foundations.

VICTORIA Josh Bola started BOLA Construction when he was just twenty-two, encouraged by his father, Jerry, who had over twenty year of experience under his belt in real estate and property development.

“My dad moved the family from Williams Lake, where he worked as a corrections officer,” explains Josh. “He eventually realized it wasn’t for him, and decided to pursue his true passion in construction and real estate. He asked me to work alongside him on the construction front. That’s where it all began for me.”

Josh started in asbestos remediation while continuing to learn and work with his father. Over time, BOLA grew in employees (eight, currently), skills in their toolkit, and thus offerings to their clients. Today, their work includes renovations and new construction, asbestos abatement, general contracting and interior design services through BOLA Designs. While not a massive firm, BOLA has managed to carve out its place amongst the crowded construction ecosystem across Vancouver Island. They did so by offering a one-stop shop experience with a personal, familial touch.

Elaborates Josh, “We are a local, family-owned and operated company, and carry those family values throughout every project. We can do everything under one roof, and are a very cost-effective option for potential customers. We can buy your property, design, renovate or tear down, rebuild, and even sell it. We have all trades and resources at our disposal. I was taught by my dad that honesty and trust go a long way, and I stay true to that in everything I do, for every client that puts their trust in us.”

Their work and dedication have paid off. Most recently, BOLA was rated a top three home builder by Three Best Rated, their second consecutive win.

Born and raised in BC, Josh proudly uses BOLA Construction to support local charities and causes, working with the likes of HeroWork, The Mustard Seed and BC Children’s Hospital. They also volunteer with the Sikh temple in Victoria, amongst other charitable deeds. This ethic of giving and looking out for those in need, too, came courtesy of Jerry.

Notes Josh, “My Dad still offers real estate services, but he’s also a strong anti-bullying advocate. We come from a family background in martial arts. He teaches kick-boxing and self-defense. We still like to train together; it keeps us grounded and helps me remember my roots. However we can contribute, be it the services we provide through BOLA, working with charities, or even martial arts, giving back to this community is what keeps us going.”

As we enter the new year, Josh has distilled his goal for the future of BOLA Construction into a simple, not entirely unexpected personal edict.

“Continue to watch our company grow at a steady pace, and always maintain my father’s work ethic. We want to keep the Bola name strong, for generations to come.”
