Nanaimo Seeking Input for Port Drive Master Plan

June 14, 2017

NANAIM0 – The City of Nanaimo is seeking public input on the future land uses of a key part of Nanaimo’s waterfront. All members of the public are invited to attend the Open House for Port Drive Waterfront Master Plan, to be held on June 21 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at 1 Port Drive, directly across from Port Place Mall.

The City of Nanaimo began the Master Plan process for 1 Port Drive, a parcel of municipal land and water located along the southern Nanaimo waterfront, in October 2015. Since that time, the City has been working to better understand the existing conditions of the property, identify potential uses and meeting with stakeholders to discuss issues and opportunities related to the property.

The next step in the process is to bring concepts and options back to stakeholders and the public, in order to gather feedback that can be used to draft a Master Plan.

The Port Drive Waterfront Master Plan is now in the ‘Options Development’ phase of the project, which explores concepts and options for future land uses and key plan features such as a transit exchange and new accesses.

Members of the public who are unable to attend the Open House are welcome to provide feedback through the online survey, which will be posted on the project website on June 21.

In March of 2013, the City of Nanaimo acquired 1 Port Drive from Canadian Pacific Railway at a cost of $3.4 million. The purchase included 10.8 ha (26.7 acres) of land and water, located immediately south of the downtown core of Nanaimo.
