NANAIMO – What kind of shape is the City of Nanaimo in? The answer to that question will be revealed Tuesday, October 6 when the 2015 edition of the city’s Vital Signs Report is officially released at a media event being held at Woodgrove Centre. Members of the local media and various dignitaries have been invited to join the Nanaimo Foundation, United Way Central and Northern Vancouver Island, the City of Nanaimo, and Island Savings to officially launch the 2015 Vital Signs Report.

The media event will take place at the Island Savings branch at Woodgrove Centre and will run from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. Those in attendance will receive a copy of the report. Nanaimoʼs Vital Signs was first conducted in 2014and is a community check-up that provides a comprehensive, reader-friendly look at how the community is faring in ten key quality-of-life areas.

The report is compiled using data collected from current statistics and through ongoing community consultation. The report has been created to inform the community about issues and opportunities affecting the quality of life and well-being of residents in Nanaimo.

The Vital Signs publication is part of a national initiative that was launched in 2006 by the Community Foundations of Canada. This is the second time Vital Signs research was conducted in Nanaimo, and the report plays a key role in the Nanaimo Foundationʼs strategic plan to increase its community development contributions. Twenty-seven other community foundations across Canada have also prepared a Vital Signs report this year.

Vital Signs is a national program led by community foundations and coordinated by Community Foundations of Canada that leverages local knowledge to measure the vitality of communities and supports action towards improving the quality of life found within them.
