Island Savings Seeking Applications for $50K Innovation Grant

May 15, 2017

DUNCAN — Island Savings, a division of First West Credit Union, will recognize and reinforce its local communities—the heart of Canadian culture—by contributing one $50,000 grant to a deserving charitable organization.

This major gift is an extension of Simple Generosity, First West’s year-long community investment program that applauds volunteerism and supports local non-profits in recognition of Canada’s 150th anniversary.

“As a credit union, we recognize that children and families are at the heart of vibrant, thriving communities,” says Susan Byrom, senior manager of community investment at First West Credit Union.

“This is why we’re so proud to commemorate this monumental year in Canada’s history by supporting those who make our country so special. Through this major donation, together with our volunteer recognition program, Island Savings will be injecting more than $70,000 into our local communities through 2017 as part of Simple Generosity—one of our largest-ever community investment initiatives.”

Non-profit and charitable organizations are invited to apply for the $50,000 grant now through May 25, 2017 at the following link. Submissions will be open to a public voting period from May 29 – June 23, facilitated by First West partner Volinspire, an online platform that connects volunteers with charitable organizations.

The 10 organizations that receive the most votes throughout the communities Island Savings operates in will be assessed by a selection committee of First West leaders and employees to determine one winning organization, to be announced Jun. 29.

This grant is one of three $50,000 donations to be distributed by First West Credit Union in 2017 as part of Simple Generosity.
