BC – The New Car Dealers Association (NCDA) of BC applauds the recent announcement made by the provincial government to continue to support the Clean Energy Vehicle Point-of-Sale Purchase Incentive (CEVforBC™) program. Bill Bennett, Minister of Energy and Mines, announced $40 million in funding, with the goal of continuing to ensure British Columbians are incentivized when purchasing a qualifying clean energy vehicle.
BC’s New Car Dealers are helping the province lead the way with the highest sales of clean energy vehicles per capita in the country.
“The NCDA supports the Government of British Columbia’s balanced approach to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and continuing to fund effective initiatives like the CEVforBC program,” says Blair Qualey, President and CEO of the New Car Dealers Association of BC.
“I’m pleased to see the Province continues to recognize that point of sale incentives and adequate charging infrastructure are the most effective way to encourage British Columbians to consider clean energy vehicles when making a new vehicle purchase.”
The CEVforBC incentive program allows consumers to save up to $5,000 towards the purchase or lease of a new battery electric or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, and up to $6,000 for a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle.
For qualifying electric vehicles, the incentive can also be combined with the BC SCRAP-IT Program, which offers up to $6,000 off the sticker price if a purchaser scraps an older vehicle. The provincial government support will help to ensure that more and more British Columbians can participate in the program when making climate conscious decisions.
Supporting alternative and more fuel-efficient vehicle technologies, along with charging infrastructure was a key component in the Climate Leadership Plan which was unveiled by the province last year, on the heels of the Paris Climate Summit in 2015.
