SALMON ARM – May is bike month and here in Salmon Arm we are pleased to share two very successful cycling events that take place in May. The Salty Street Fest happens Saturday, May 13 on Hudson Street in downtown Salmon Arm. This family-oriented festival gains popularity every year with street performers, petting zoos, a youngsters decorated bike parade, face painting and so much more.

The organizing committee is also very excited to feature a newly restored Dragon Boat as well as Chicken-Like-Birds, a local and very favourite band from right here in the Shuswap!  Go to www.saltystreetfest.com to check out all the cool things to do that day – there’s even a pie-eating contest!

There’s also 3 other races for ages 3 and up. The U15 – 3 hours Enduro, the Junior Salty Pup – 3 hour Enduro and the Salty Pup – 1 hour Enduro. Lots of choices for any skillset and age of rider. Go to www.skookumcycleandski.com/salty-dog-enduro for all the details and registration.

Shuswap Launch-a-Preneur is ramping up for the finale on May 4 at the Salmar Classic Theatre. Launch-a-Preneur is an entrepreneurial competition designed by Enactus, Salmon Arm Economic Development Society and Community Futures Shuswap.

The purpose of the program is to assist individuals and teams to successfully plan for and launch their business in the Shuswap, while at the same time competing for prize packages in true “Dragon’s Den” fashion. Thousands of dollars in prizes and in-kind donations are up for grabs and the competition is always tight. Go to www.launch-a-preneur.ca for more info.

The Chamber was very pleased to host a community All Candidates Forum on April 24. Candidates represented all four declared parties for the Shuswap region (Liberal, NDP, Green and Libertarian) and the evening was well attended by members of Salmon Arm and the surrounding community.

It was a great opportunity to hear from the candidates directly and learn more about their positions on the important issues for our region and the province as a whole. A special thanks to our local community radio station, Voice of the Shuswap, who broadcast the event live. The Chamber encourages all British Columbians to vote in the upcoming provincial election on May 9th.
