Site C Job Fairs and Networking Sessions Coming to the Peace Region

September 29, 2015

FORT ST. JOHN – The B.C. Chamber of Commerce and BC Hydro will be hosting job fairs and business-to-business networking sessions in the Peace region in October.

The sessions will provide an opportunity for job seekers and businesses from local and Aboriginal communities to meet with BC Hydro’s contractors and other regional employers, including Site C worker accommodation and site preparation contractors.

“The jobs fairs and business networking sessions are an excellent opportunity for local workers and businesses to meet contractors and build relationships,” says Pat Pimm, MLA for Peace River North.
“Ultimately, the purpose of these events is to help people and businesses in the Peace region participate and benefit in the construction of Site C. I am very committed to seeing local workers be considered for employment opportunities and this is a good first step.”

Representatives from employment and skills training resources, such as WorkBC, Employment Connections and Northern Lights College, will also be in attendance.

“These job fairs and business-to-business networking sessions build on our commitment to bring jobs and opportunities to Tumbler Ridge and the Peace region,” says Mike Bernier, MLA for Peace River South. “I encourage people and businesses interested in Site C to attend a job fair and business networking session.”

Job seekers are encouraged to bring copies of resumes. No registration is required for job fairs.

“It is great to see that the construction of Site C, which has been underway for 60 days, is already creating jobs and business opportunities for communities and Aboriginal groups in the Peace region,” says Jon Garson, Vice President, Policy Development & Government Relations at the B.C. Chamber. “The B.C. Chamber of Commerce is pleased to support BC Hydro in their mandate to support local hiring and create opportunities in the Peace region.”
