BC – Farm Credit Canada (FCC) invites agriculture producers to come out and learn from experts in the agriculture industry at a regional FCC Ag Knowledge Exchange event in February.

FCC Ag Knowledge Exchange events are a practical way to help producers improve their management skills, get information and insight from leading farm management experts, and gain a deeper understanding of the business of agriculture.

Communicating for results: practical tools for success on your farm, offered by Dr. John Fast

In this workshop, participants will discover how to improve communication among those they work with in their operation, especially family members. The lighthearted and interactive approach of the speaker mixes real-life stories with proven strategies and methods that have improved communications in hundreds of farm businesses.

Participants will learn proven listening techniques that produce results, discover how to identify and manage disagreements before they become disputes, explore negotiating strategies that don’t sacrifice relationships or principles, and understand how intentional communication improves family harmony.

Presenter Fast is president of Family Enterprise Solutions and one of Canada’s leading experts on family business, leadership development, and communicating for results and a sought-after inspirational speaker. He’s founding partner and president of Family Enterprise Solutions, a management consulting and training organization.

His book The Family Business Doctor: Ensuring the Long Term Health of Your Business Family has received wide acclaim for its ability to communicate the deepest issues facing business families in a hopeful and practical manner. He has also co-authored numerous books and curriculum used by professionals and family firms.

Trends and trade opportunities in beef markets, presented by Anne Dunford Wasko

In this workshop, participants will get valuable insights into what to expect in beef markets for this year and beyond, including industry structure trends and trade developments.  Attendees will learn how to position their business to mitigate risk and grow profitability, explore key factors shaping North American and international beef markets, learn about trends shaping the Canadian cattle industry and discover why managing price risk is so important in today’s market.

Wasko has spent over 30 years as a market analyst focusing on the Canadian cattle industry. Currently the market analyst for Gateway Livestock Exchange based in Taber, Alta., and president of Cattle Trends Inc., Anne consults for companies and individuals in the cattle business and makes numerous presentations at conferences across the country every year.

Her professional expertise comes from 21 years as senior market analyst with Canfax, where she provided members with marketing information and analysis. She’s a past board member of the Alberta Livestock and Meat Agency, sat on the Statistics Canada Advisory Committee on Agriculture, and volunteered with the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede for 20 years. Anne works alongside her husband at their ranch in Eastend, Sask.
