Invest Northwest Publishing Ltd. (INWP) started in 2004 with Business Vancouver Island, a monthly business newspaper focusing on local business news from the Malahat to Port Hardy and cities in between, based in Nanaimo, British Columbia. Publishers Mark and Lise MacDonald were invited to purchase the Business Examiner, which he had worked for since 1990, months earlier, but when the deal was not consummated, started out on their own.
Business Thompson Okanagan newspaper (Penticton to Kamloops) was started in 2006, and Business Fraser Valley (Langley to Hope) in 2007. Business Peace Cariboo Skeena (100 Mile House to Prince George, Prince Rupert to Fort St. John) ran from 2007-2010, and re-started in January, 2015. INWP purchased Business Examiner from Black Press on Vancouver Island in 2009, exactly five years after starting Business Vancouver Island, and in 2011 the company bought Okanagan Business Examiner from the Prosper Media Group. Along with its four monthly newspapers: Business Examiner Vancouver Island, Business Examiner Victoria, Business Examiner Thompson Okanagan and Business Examiner Peace Cariboo Skeena, INWP also produces events and publications throughout the province:
The Vancouver Island Real Estate Board Commercial Building Awards in Nanaimo, the Fraser Valley Commercial Building Awards in Langley, the Southern Interior Construction Association Thompson Okanagan Commercial Building Awards in Kelowna and the Northern BC Commercial Building Awards in Prince George. INWP also coordinates the Vancouver Island Business Excellence Awards each year.
